Humboldt, Iowa · Worthington Park
Honoring the service and sacrifice of those who answered the call — both the living and the fallen.
Our Mission
The Humboldt Veterans Memorial is a community-driven effort to create a permanent, respectful tribute to the veterans of Humboldt and Humboldt County — those still with us and those we've lost.
The project was spearheaded by Daryle Zwiefel, a retired Humboldt Postmaster and Vietnam War Army veteran, who recognized that Humboldt deserved a dedicated place to honor its own. "We're losing names of our Veterans. They're dying off and they're gone," Zwiefel said.
This memorial will stand as a lasting reminder that their service will never be forgotten — by this generation or any that follows.
The Design
All granite stones are sourced and made in the United States, ensuring quality and honoring the spirit of the memorial.
A formal arched entry marks the southwest corner of the memorial, welcoming visitors into a dignified and contemplative space.
The site will be lit at night, ensuring the memorial can be visited and honored at any hour along the Highway 169 corridor.
Access ramps on both the south and west sides ensure the memorial is welcoming and accessible to all who come to pay their respects.
Flag inserts around the perimeter allow additional flags to be flown for special occasions like Memorial Day and Veterans Day.
Special recognition stones are planned for the local VFW and American Legion posts in honor of their decades of service to veterans.
